February 7 marks the start of National Library Week so we thought we’d take a look at some of the best library-style bars in the capital. These are not just reserved for those who love libraries, oh no. I think you’ll find they are stylish, chic and serve amazing cocktails too. And, you don’t have to be quiet! What more could you ask for?

GorringeThe Hidden Library, The Gorringe Park Pub, Tooting

This quiet local pub boasts a warm and lively atmosphere and bags of character. There is five real ales on tap and cask cider, a fab wine list and homemade food. As well as a secret garden with a fire pit and a boutique cinema room, on the first floor there is a gorgeous library room for dining. The shelves are lined with a huge range of fiction and reference books and this is a wonderful place for you and a date to hide away with as few drinks

ElectricBarLibrary Bar at Electric House, Notting Hill

This wood-panelled space at the ultra-hip Electric House private members’ club in Notting Hill has an open fire and a large central table where bartenders fix cocktails. There is also a turntable set up so you can pick an album from the shelf and play your own soundtrack.

GrangeHotelMalt Whisky Library Bar at The Grange Hotel, Bloomsbury

Are you a fan of whisky? This bar located on the Lower Ground Floor of Grange Blooms Hotel London, is the perfect place to unwind with a range of classic bourbons or single malts. It features a well-stocked bar, tables and comfortable seating in a classy English library setting – complete with impressively stacked bookshelves. There is also an adjoining patio area where you can savour a dram or two ‘al-fresco’.

The newest and hottest private members’ club on the London scene is set in a five-storey townhouse in the heart of London. The venue has a huge open-plan bar area and everywhere you look is lined with statement furniture, open fireplaces and of course – books! There are literary events and talks, seminars, special live music bookings or book lunch at the Kitchen.

KnightsbridgeThe Library Bar at the Lanesborough Hotel, Knightsbridge

There is nothing not to love about five-star luxury. At this library bar you can expect impeccable service, crystal glassware and fancy nibbles so if you and your date re after a VIP experience, then head here. There are planet of sofas, plumped up cushions and books, even housing the menu.

CinnamonClubThe Library Bar at the Cinnamon Club, Westminster

This modern and chic Indian restaurant is located in a Grade II-listed building, which was formerly Westminster Abbey. Located on the ground floor and open during the day, the bar was originally the Reading Room at the old Library. The room retains the relaxed atmosphere and is a great place to drop into for drinks before lunch or dinner.
