Review: Dinner and drinks at Mamounia Lounge

Psst! Hey, Lovestruckers, shhh, lean close…closer…whoa that’s close enough.

Trench coat collar up, Trilby pulled down to eyes and notepad and pen in hand, team Lovestruck are out and about testing the best venues (*and arranging the occasional complementary treat) for you and your date

First target:  Mamounia Lounge, Mayfair & Knightsbridge. Mamounia 191

The Lovestruck lowdown: This Middle Eastern restaurant, cocktail bar and late-night bar has two restaurants – one in the heart of Mayfair on Curzon Street and a second venue on Brompton Road in Knightsbridge. Lovestruck checked out the Curzon Street venue, which has been recently re-launched after a complete refurbishment. The interior is opulent with gold and bronze walls, twinkling chandeliers, mosaicked floors and tables sprinkled with Moroccan rose petals.

The Food: The food is Moroccan and Lebanese – think tender tagines in traditional clay pots, sticky Baklava and banquet-style mezze dishes, such as moutabel, a smoky aubergine dip blended with tahini, mouth-watering hummus or their colourful mango salad. Lovestruck recommends the Meshoui, a slow-roasted whole shoulder of lamb, marinated in Moroccan spices and served with fresh apricots, dates and oranges.

The Drinks: In terms of drinking their champagne cocktails include the Sheik Royal, a blend of vodka, infused Moroccan orange and elderflower or the Mamounia Lounge signature cocktail, Gold Digger, a combination of fresh passion fruit and vanilla vodka, topped with champagne and sprinkled with gold leaf flakes.

What’s special about it? This is a great evening date because as well as the extensive cocktail menu and great food, there is plenty of entertainment in the evenings, including belly dancers and live Middle Eastern music. The restaurant gives the feel of a traditional Moroccan souk, with candles and the smell of burning incense, so can feel quite seductive. From Monday to Friday it is open until 1.30am, with last food orders at 12.30pm, so if you’re out late and fancy a bite to eat, this is the place to come.

Extras: There is an outdoor terrace with heated flooring, so if shisha pipes are your thing, there is a full shisha menu to choose from, most of which are paired with innovative cocktails.

Anything else to know? Yes! Quote ‘Lovestruck’ at either Mamounia Lounge venues when booking to receive a *complementary glass of champagne.

Overall date rating: 8/10: This venue is seductive and also great fun. If Middle Eastern food is your fave, put this on your must-go date list.

Let us know how you get on @lovestruck

Stay tuned Struckers!
