In a recent study by scientists who were looking into the link between sex and the brain, the feet have been revealed as the least appealing body part. They wanted to find out why a nibbled neck say, is more erogenous than a nibbled nose.
In terms of sexual attractiveness feet ranked last out of 41 parts, followed by kneecaps in the study by university bods in the UK and South Africa. Maybe time to ditch the toe-sucking and foot massages then…
Men were shown to like the back of legs and hands – women were less bothered. Men were also shown to have almost as many erogenous zones as women, which dispelled the commonly-held view that they just have erm, well one.
The study, which questioned 800 people, held true across race, age, gender and sexual orientation, which would suggest that the results are hard-wired rather than a result of life experience.
The most popular part was unsurprisingly the genitals, followed by lips, ears, inner thighs and the shoulder blades.
The lead researcher concluded that sexual response could be controlled by a part of the brain called the insula cortex, although noted that it might be hard to measure it, as it might be a bit weird for someone having their brain monitored, while different parts of their body are stroked. Sounds quite fun if you ask us!
He also noted that other neuroscientists had already come up with the optimal speed to stroke human skin (5cm per second if you wish to test it out at home).
