Top 5 London date ideas for under £20

We all know London can be an expensive city to live and date in and if you are getting to know someone new and going on lots of dates, the pennies soon start adding up.

With this in mind, we though we’d look at places to go and things to see for under £20. They’ll not lose you any date-cred and whatever happens, your wallet will love you!

Enjoy a lunchtime recital
Cost: Free or £3.50
There are many places in London where you can enjoy the wonderful classical music of Bach, Gershwin and Mozart (and many others) for less than £10. The church of St James’s in Piccadilly (www.sjp.org.uk) holds 50-minute concerts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1.10pm and merely ask for a donation. Around the corner at St Martin-in-the-Fields, there are concerts every Monday, Tuesday and Friday at 1pm for £3.50.

Stroll through Borough Market
Cost: Free unless you decide to buy!
Perfect for foodies and their partners, Borough Market is the perfect places to go to nibble on cheese, munch on meat or try a strange-flavoured pie. It consists of up to 70 stalls and stands where producers from all over the country bring a range of fresh produce including meats, fish, vegetables, ciders, cheeses, breads, cakes and other sweet treats.   BeaBloom

Take afternoon tea at Bea’s of Bloomsbury
Cost: £19.00 per person
If you head to The Ritz or Harrods for a lavish afternoon tea, you will probably have to pay somewhere around £40, so why not head to this award-winning tearoom, where you can indulge in their no-frills option, for £19.00 at either their Bloomsbury of St Paul’s stores. You can expect freshly baked scones, cupcakes, mini meringues and fruity marshmallows, brownies, blondies and brioche buns, all washed down with a pot of loose-leaf tea.

Go on a London Ghost Tour Walk
Cost: £9 per person
Sharing a scary experience with someone is proven to bring you closer together so there is nothing like a spooky walk to get your heart racing. Enjoy a fascinating journey through the dark streets, ghoulish graveyards and creepy alleyways of London, where you can learn about the spine-chilling goings-on. Scheduled on Fridays and Saturdays, they set off from near St Paul’s Underground Station.

Play at the Science Museum
Cost: Free
Whaaaaat? A museum we hear you ask? Yes we know there are heaps of places to go to for free, but this is no ordinary stroll round to look at paintings, which are hundreds of years old. The Science Museum can be a fun and original date venue in our eyes. Head off to the first floor for some quiet and medical memorabilia, or even better go the interactive gallery Launchpad, where you can play with some seriously good hands-on toys; the sort you longed for as a child. Just be sure to avoid school holidays as you may find yourself battling for space with a bunch of eight-year-olds…

We’ve given you the ideas, it’s now up to you; find a date through Lovestruck London and go have some fun!
