The best professions to date

Do you want to date someone with a particular profession? Would you prefer a doctor over an artist? An engineer or a dancer? Often, a job is like an extension of someone’s personality – and we think, can offer to clues to their aspirations, personalities and secret demons.

Does profession matter when choosing a date?

Some of my friends are particularly choosy and will only date people in certain careers. My friend Claire, who is a wannabe poet, is looking for an author – she loves the bohemian types and has images of herself working alongside a fellow artist in a studio in New York. My friend Jack meanwhile wants to find himself a nurse, which kinda speaks for itself really.

Do certain careers produce better lovers? Back in 2009, one survey by The Sun newspaper claimed IT workers were the best lovers, after studying the sex lives of 2000 people. Who knew?

So we asked around and compiled this list of some of Lovestruck users favourite professions to date.

Teachers: In order to teach a pack of small (or big people) and have stuff thrown at their backs, we reckon you’ve got to be pretty nurturing, patient and understanding. Plus, they will have six weeks off in the summer to take a nice long holiday.

Dentists: Like a doctor but without the hectic hours, dentists seem to have a fairly calm carry-on. Since most of us hate going to the dentist many of them have outgoing, witty personalities to boot (and they have to be good with small children and give them stickers and stuff).

Psychiatrists: They are happy to talk about their feelings. The end.

Chefs: They may work long hours but the obvious bonus is that they will be able to whip up your favourite meal on their days off. Pan-friend scallops? Followed by a full roast? Yes please!

Accountants: Who wants to do their own accounts? Accountants tend to be methodical, hard-working and are good at planning stuff. If this isn’t your forte, they are handy to have around.

Designers: They are creative types and pretty in tune with life. If they are still “finding their muse” however, back away slowly (then run).
