Yes Lovestruckers, you did read that correctly – the King of high waisters/put-downs/X Factor is reportedly going to have a mini-me.
Yesterday the news broke via US Weekly that Simon, 53, is expecting a baby with New York socialite Lauren Silverman, who is still technically married to her husband, Andrew. The pair have been long-term friends with Simon and have holidayed together for the past few years.
It was only when 36-year-old Lauren and Andrew called time on their marriage that Lauren started dating Simon around a year ago. They were seen looking at houses in LA and just a few weeks back, she declared she wants to marry him.
Now Lauren is about ’10 weeks along’ with their baby, according to the mag.
Simon’s mum Julie told The Sun: ‘I’ve not heard anything officially. But if it’s true then I’m absolutely delighted. It’s wonderful! He’ll make a fantastic father. He’ll be great.’
Lauren’s stepmother confirmed the news. Rosy Davis, who is the wife of Lauren’s dad Steven, added: ‘We are all excited for the baby. It’s beautiful. We feel blessed. Any kid is a blessing.’
Last year Simon, whose past girlfriends include Sinitta, Alicia Douvall and Mezghan Hussainy, declared that he couldn’t wait to hear the patter of tiny feet. He said: ‘If I knew that I could be – how can I put this delicately – faithful. I do like kids. I haven’t ruled it out.
‘I don’t think I’d adopt. I’d rather have my own. I would love a girl. But I don’t think I’d be good in the first six months.’
Simon’s most serious relationship before Lauren was make-up artist Mezghan who he met on the set of American Idol in 2003. The couple broke off their engagement last year after a series of rows and reports that Mezghan had become ‘too needy’.
The mogul described the engagement as his ‘big mistake’, adding: ‘I’m attracted to crazy women. I encourage crazy behaviour and I make them crazy.
‘I’m attracted to certain personalities who are difficult to control. So there are tantrums, tears and fights, which is all part of the drama. My life is really odd.’
