Lean in Struckers! Our specialist undercover date review team have been out and about once again, this time giving you the date lowdown on: Las Iguanas
It might be a chain but that doesn’t mean it won’t make a great date venue. We checked out the Southbank branch, the perfect place to dive into after a walk along the river or checking out an exhibition or show at one of the nearby venues. The bar was packed with people, the atmosphere was lively and the music was chilled. There are four other branches in London, including the restaurant in Spitalfields, which has a great terrace area – perfect for those summertime drinks dates.
The Food: Foodies can look forward to a diverse menu featuring authentic dishes from Spain, Portugal and South America. Expect Mexican classics like fajitas and enchiladas, Brazilian specialities such as Xinxim – creamy peanut lime chicken – and sizzling steaks ‘from the flames’, as well as exotic salads and burgers with an extra zesty kick to them. If you’re just a bit peckish, there are perfect snacking dishes like nachos with tasty toppings to share.
The Drinks: The cocktail list is pretty extensive and they’re the only restaurant to produce Cachaça from their own sugar cane plantation near Rio, with master Cachaça-maker Joao Luiz overseeing the process from harvesting to bottling. Here the classic caipirinha is King, but you can make your way across South America with mojitos, margaritas and daiquiris.
Anything else to know? Yes! Happy Hour runs most days in many of the locations, and you can get two drinks for the price of one; that’s you and your date so we’ll drink to that!
Date rating: 7/10 Perfect for a first date because of the combination of great food, fab cocktails and a relaxed vibe.Tweet
