5 Quirky Date Ideas in Birmingham

BrumDinner date, cinema date, drinks date, coffee date. Yawn! While all of these date options are good ones, sometimes it can be a fun to do something different to impress someone new, or just to mix up your dating routine. Here we’ve looked outside the box to bring you some of the best quirky date ideas in Birmingham:

Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium
So, who doesn’t love a night at the dogs? Choose to dine in the restaurant or simply to cheer on your chosen greyhound from the grandstand or by the track itself. With admission prices starting at just £3.50, you might even win your money back if you pick a lucky pooch. It’s super-relaxed here, with beers and burgers aplenty. We can’t guarantee you’ll come home in profit but we’re pretty sure you’ll have a fab time.

The Facility
This newly opened attraction follows on from the previous one, which called The Morgue: Live. The Facility, located in the Southside district, is a live action horror maze and was described as one reviewer as “a twisted hybrid of The Twilight Zone, Crystal Maze and Shawshank but with dizzying disorientation and in your face frights.” Expect lots of screaming, moving walls and computer-driven effects for added terror. Are you brave enough?

Tolkien Trail LordOfRings
Who didn’t know that JRR Tolkien grew up in Brum not far for the city centre? This is one of  the city’s best-kept secrets and now you can follow in the famed author’s footsteps to see what inspired him to create his world of Hobbits, Orcs and other Middle Earth characters. Start at Sarehole Mill where the writer spent his early years. This area is thought to have inspired The Shire and Hobbiton. The trail then takes you to other important places in JRR Tolkien’s world. You can go at your own pace, or book on one of the specially organised tours with www.guidingyou.co.uk

Thinktank Planetarium
This is the UK’s first purpose-built digital, 360-degree planetarium, where an immersive theatre places you right in the heart of the action. The awesome shows on offer take viewers through the universe, human body and even to the bottom of the ocean. There are also 200 hands-on displays of science and technology and an interactive outdoor science playground. Perfect for embracing your inner geek!

We Are Mud   WeAreMud
This is not quite a re-enactment of that scene from Ghost but if you are arty or even just want to spend a few hours doodling while dating, head to We Are Mud. This cute ceramics café is located in Bearwood and they will supply the materials, atmosphere and inspiration for you to create your masterpiece. Choose from mugs, plates, figurines or moneyboxes and wield you paintbrush until you’ve had enough, at which point the café will glaze and fire your artwork and you can pick it up a few days later. They do a great line in coffee and cake and have just launched a new frozen yogurt bar. Yum!
