Date Idea: Win Tickets to see Brief Encounter @Southbank Centre

Do you love the old black and white vintage films? Are you a fan of classical music? Do you fancy winning a fantastic date night? Then listen in!

What? As part of the Southbank Centre’s Festival of Love, they are hosting a series of screenings of iconic love films, from Bollywood greats to musical favourites. Forming the centrepiece of the series will be three screenings of David Lean’s classic British love story, Brief Encounter, with live orchestral performances. We have a pair of tickets to give away to the opening screening!

Lucy Fleming, the daughter of film legend and leading lady in the film, Celia Johnson, will give an introduction live from the stage and the event will also include a complete performance of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 – the work used as the backbone to Brief Encounter’s iconic soundtrack – before each screening. And if you’re a die-hard fan, don’t be afraid to dress up!

The film is focuses on Laura, a married woman with children whose mainstream, Suburban life becomes increasingly complicated because of a chance meeting at a train station with a stranger, Alec. They inadvertently but quickly progress to an emotional love affair, which brings about unexpected consequences. Since its first release in 1945, Brief Encounter has been adapted for radio, theatre and even opera and won heaps of awards.

When? 15, 22 and 29 August, 7.30pm

Where? The Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, SE1 8XX. If you fancy starting your evening straight from the office, head to The Clore Ballroom, where you can take part in a fun (and free!) elocution lesson, to acquire the plummy English accent in the film. Led by actors Jon Edgley Bond and Fliss Walton from Fitzrovia Radio Show, your voice will be cut glass and polished to a tee. Then head to the bar and to try The Company of Cooks’ summer berry cocktail, created specially to accompany the screening. Screen-shot-2014-05-09-at-12.18.56-528x620
