Lucy Fleming, the daughter of film legend and leading lady in the film, Celia Johnson, will give an introduction live from the stage and the event will also include a complete performance of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 – the work used as the backbone to Brief Encounter’s iconic soundtrack – before each screening. And if you’re a die-hard fan, don’t be afraid to dress up!

The film is focuses on Laura, a married woman with children whose mainstream, Suburban life becomes increasingly complicated because of a chance meeting at a train station with a stranger, Alec. They inadvertently but quickly progress to an emotional love affair, which brings about unexpected consequences. Since its first release in 1945, Brief Encounter has been adapted for radio, theatre and even opera and won heaps of awards.

When? 15, 22 and 29 August, 7.30pm

Where? The Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, SE1 8XX.
