It’s one of those questions that comes around time and time again: If men are from Mars and women from Venus, can they ever be just friends? Or will there be a hot bed of romantic expectations and sexual frustration simmering below the surface?

Many of us have great male or female friends who we share witty banter, work woes or friendly flirtation but does one party always want more? Over the years Scientists and psychologists have debated the question with differing results and answers.
Last night’s Made in Chelsea finale saw Louise Thompson spend the night at her friend Niall Horan’s house, despite being in a relationship with the one with the huge nostrils, otherwise known as Andy Jordan.
Louise, who not long ago split up with serial cheater Spencer Matthews (keep up people!), had just returned from Edinburgh, when she was whisked away to a pal’s house, rumoured to be the One Direction singer.
Moaning to his pal Stevie, Andy said: ‘This guy that Louise had said that she fancies got in touch with her the other day and had texted her asking to got for a drink. I thought whatever, she goes for a drink… four hours later I haven’t heard from her at all. I texted how was your date? It gets to two in the morning, I text where are you? No reply.’
He then went round to her house and she wasn’t there but had stayed with the friend. Uh oh!
‘She was lying and knew she was going to stay the whole time as he sent a car to pick her up and he lives 45 minutes out of London,’ he continued. ‘I’m just gutted, I don’t know how she can so casually do it to someone else, she knows exactly what I feel like.’
During their showdown, Louise claimed nothing had happened, countering: ‘Do I have to tell you where I am the whole time? You sound a bit needy. I think you’re really over-reacting. I literally don’t feel like I’ve done anything wrong!’
