Anything to declare? 5 dating customs from around the world

WorldDating customs differ around the world and if you have ever dated someone of a different nationality, you will know they have lots of different views on what is right and wrong when it comes to wooing someone. Some of the dating customs might not be to our liking, but we bring few great and interesting customs us Brits could possible learn from:

In France, there is no game-playing

Have you ever just stopped hearing from someone you are dating in the early stages? Perhaps you wrack your brains about what you have said or done and then let the matter drop? This never happens in France. French guys are unafraid to make their intentions clear and say that they are not interested, should that be the case. It’s pretty simple and the right thing to do in our humble opinion.

In Germany, being late is inexcusable

Being late for a date here is one of those things; in fact many of us want to turn up a few minutes late in order to not be seen as too keen. Being on the receiving end of a late date is more annoying though and if you are late for a date in Germany, this is inexcusable and if the guy is late – the girl might not see the date through. The moral of the tale: don’t leave your date waiting!

In Italy and Russia, men pay for dinner

The question over who pays on a date is one that often has people divided with some girls worrying that paying means that they ‘owe’ their date something. In Italy and Russia, men pay for meals with zero expectation, which makes things much more simple, we imagine.

In Italy, dressing to impress is the norm

In Italy both men and women spend a long time dressing for their dates, paying particular attention to their shoes. Guys – what shoes do you normally wear on a date? It might be worth giving it some thought (and grab some shoe polish too)!

In Brazil, kissing on the first date is the done thing

If you go into a bar Brazilian couples everywhere will be kissing. This is because kissing is seen as key to getting to know each other and they think it is important, since a first kiss “says it all”. Whether or not you kiss on a first date is a personal preference of course, but we think there might be some wisdom in this lip-locking tradition.

What do you make of these international dating customs? Any others to add? Tell us @lovestruck
