Review: A salsa lesson and dinner at Floridita

The Lovestruck Lowdown:Floridita London Restaurant and Bar Wardour st 26/10/12 for Palm PR
Iconic late-night venue Floridita recently launched Tuesday  Night Salsa Sessions, taught by Strictly Come Dancing’s own veteran choreographer, Richard Marcel. After being taught to salsa to your hearts content in either a beginners or improvers session (or both), you are then treated to a three-course meal. From 8.30pm onwards you can enjoy live Cuban music from the spectacular bands and hit the dancefloor to show off your new moves! Located in the heart of Soho, on Wardour Street, the venue has been one of the most important for Latin live music over four decades.

The Food: The Latin American-inspired set menu features options such as gazpacho or ceviche to start; ginger-infused salmon fillet with warm peaches, red onion and balsamic reduction or charcoal grilled pork chop with caramelized onions and sultanas for your main course; and chocolate brownie with Kahlua chocolate sauce and crème chantilly for dessert. The venue is smart and all the tables are placed around the dance floor, so you will never struggle for conversation.

The Drinks: Included in the price of your salsa lesson and three-course dinner (£45) is one of Floridita’s legendary mojitos – or if you don’t want to eat you can just sample the lesson and have a drink for £20. There is also an extensive cocktail menu, featuring Cuban favourites Cuba Libres, Mulatas and Daiquiris. You can’t go too wrong!

Anything else to know? Yes, the salsa lesson is great, great fun. Whether you are a complete novice or a pro, tuition is geared towards everyone. Richard has worked with Madonna, Kylie Minogue, George Michael and Tom Jones, so he seriously knows his stuff.

Date rating: 9/10 The atmosphere here is unbeatable and welcoming, so even if you’ve got two left feet, you’re guaranteed a great night. The food is good but for us, Floridita was all about the cocktails, dancing and chilled Cuban beats!
