Top Ten Turn-offs for Men

In the quest to find the perfect man, sometimes things do go wrong. Even if you do many things to turn your date on, inevitably sometimes things do go a bit pear-shaped.

You know how it is, date 2 and she's already defining the 'relationship... RUN!

You know how it is, date 2 and she’s already defining the ‘relationship… RUN!

After speaking to a selection of men, we complied a list of their top turn-offs:

Defining the relationship too early
Men never like to be put on the spot too early about where you think the romance could be heading. Bite your tongue and wait another few dates before asking that all-important question.

Being too vain
Every girl likes to look good but if you look at every mirror to check out your reflection, dash to the bathroom every ten minutes to redo your lippy, your date will get bored.

Banging on about your weight
Most of us would like to be half a stone lighter, but if you start talking about how you’re having a fat day and really shouldn’t eat desert, you will come across as boring and insecure. Most men love curves and won’t notice the odd extra inch.

Talking about you ‘bastard’ ex
We all have a closet of exes who came up short but save your whinging for your female friends. Keep ‘schtum’ or it will sound like you’re still not over it.

Being clingy
Men like independent women so if you text him five minutes after the date and ring him every day afterwards to find out what he has been doing, he may not respond well.

Baby talk
Waxing lyrical about how you want enough children for a five-a-side football team and have named them already is only a conversation for when you are properly serious about your other half and know already how he feels about fatherhood. Start talking about your body clock too early and he is likely to make a run for it.

Gossiping
So Sarah in HR cheated on her boyfriend with Gary in accounts and did you know that Claire had a massive row with Ruby after she said she looked like she had put on weight? Girls, he could not care less. Keep the gossip for your female friends only.

Bashing his mates
Yes, Phil may be a two-timing bastard who really needs to be put in his place but if Phil is your man’s best mate, don’t bad mouth him. You don’t need to like them but they are his friends and you need to respect that.

Mothering
Whatever you do, don’t tell your man how to dress or start nagging him about getting a ‘proper’ job. You will just remind him of his mum!

Ultimatums
If you’re relationship is a healthy one you won’t need to give your man an ultimatum. This shows that communication has broken down. If you are worried about something, bring it up in a relaxed way because tactics like these inevitably backfire.
