Five ways to spot a serial dater

We’ve got bad news. Not everyone on your dating journey will be serious about having a lasting and meaningful relationship. While some potential dates may look like Brad Pitt or George Clooney or even Angelina Jolie or Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, they might have more skeletons in their cupboard than Darren Day or Taylor Swift.

It's important you know what to look out for in a serial dater.

It’s important you know what to look out for in a serial dater.

The serial dater loves the thrill of the chase, the first few dates and really sweeping you off your feet. Maybe it’s their ego, boredom or something else, but then they appear to move on very quickly, as if your romance never happened.

Follow Lovestruck.com’s easy guide to see if your new lover is in it for the long haul, or just looking for a night – or few weeks – of fun…

Workaholic
If someone is so in love with their job, to the exclusion of everything else, then you don’t stand a chance. No one wants to be second best, especially when spreadsheets and meetings are in the top spot.

Time-check
Ask how long their most recent relationship lasted. Three weeks? How about their longest relationship ever? Two months? And they are in their late thirties? If this is the case it’s time to back away carefully before you are seduced by those beautiful eyes, which hang on a minute, appear to be checking out someone at the bar…

Loner
If your date doesn’t appear to be married to their job, yet they are more than happy to spend time on their own every night and weekend, or they don’t want to enjoy quality time with you outside the bedroom, it’s not a proper relationship. Get out quick.

Long gaps
Someone genuinely interested in meeting you will not leave you waiting for days between messages. A few hours is perfectly acceptable but if you are agreeing details of a meeting and they don’t get back to you for a few days, proceed with caution. Or if you’ve been seeing each other regularly and they suddenly go cold and don’t say why, don’t take it personally, it’s likely they could be a serial dater.

Big rush
A pretty obvious one this; but serial daters often appear smitten in the early days and want to move the relationship on at the speed of light. For a serial dater, they don’t want to make the building blocks of a normal relationship they just want to get you into bed.
