Does ‘sexting’ count as cheating?

So, you are alone in the house and you spot your partner’s phone staring up at you invitingly on the sideboard. You pick it up (of course!) and have a look at the messages and you discover a string of filthy texts to someone else. How do you feel and what do you do?

Is it okay to send suggestive texts to another person when you are in a exclusive relationship? In a nutshell, we think ‘no’.

However, a new survey conducted by the Good In Bed, along with Men’s Health and Women’s Health magazines, suggest that many of us would look the other way. Only one in five of the 1000 respondents surveyed said they would leave their partner if they had been sexting and a third said they wouldn’t even bother confronting their misbehaving partner.

Founder of Good In Bed and Men’s Health Contributor Ian Kerner said that the results are ‘consistent with the fact that a lot of people want to overlook infidelity or want to downplay or avoid partner confrontation.
He added: ‘As much as we hear in the media about confronting infidelity by going to a couples therapist or debating whether to stay or cut bait, a lot of times people really will ignore it.’

Former Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan is facing a similar dilemma after her boyfriend, Manchester City star Scott Sinclair, reportedly sent a string of naughty texts to another woman. The 24 year old supposedly send a message, reading: ‘U would look so much better with everything off’ and ‘if only we had one more day in Cannes’ to celebrity interviewer Donatella Panayiotou via WhatsApp, after they met on a yacht in the South of France. However Scott denied he sent the texts and said a friend had.

The insider told The Sun on Sunday: ‘Her relationship with Scott is rocky but these cheating allegations really hit her for six. The worst thing is she couldn’t even confront him about it at first.

‘She had to sit at home fretting. Scott denied he had done anything wrong but obviously there’s still a lot of doubt in her mind and the relationship is far from secure.

‘It’s got to a point where she needs to start making changes in her life. Since she left Corrie she’s just been floating about, doing nothing.’

What do you think about ‘sexting’? Have you ever forgiven a partner for ‘sexting’ and regretted it? Have you sent messages behind your partner’s back to someone else? Tell us what you think @lovestruck
