Don’t LEGO of this date!

Attention all LEGO fans! Did you used to make the best houses, spaceships, people ever circa 1990?!  Fancy re-connecting over a brick or million at a UK exclusive? Well this might just be the best date idea ever and if you think your creations weren’t half bad, wait until you see these bricked-beauties!

LegoMan09.20.59What? The Art Of The Brick exhibition is making by American artist Nathan Sawaya, featuring 80 LEGO sculptures, created using more than a million bricks. It’s been claimed by CNN to be “one of the world’s top 10 must-see exhibitions.”

When? September 26th 2012 to January 4th 2015

Where? Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London, E1 6QL

What? Think LEGO is just for children? Think again! This exhibition by US sculptor Sawaya features a 20ft Tyrannosaurus Rex, along with versions of the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo, created over 4,188 hours (that’s over five months of LEGO building – phew!). Other highlights include Yellow – a man ripping his chest open – and Blue Man – a figure sitting contemplatively.

Dinosaur09.20.04Sawaya says: “These works are very personal to me, and reflect my growth as an artist as I strove to discover my creative identity. The museum exhibition is accessible because it engages the child in all of us while simultaneously illuminating sophisticated and complex concepts. Everyone can relate to LEGO since it’s a toy that many children have at home. But my goal with this exhibition when it first debuted in 2007 was to elevate this simple plaything to a place it has never been before.”

The works, which are being shown in the UK for the first time, have travelled from previous global hotspots, including New York, Los Angeles, Melbourne and Shanghai. The exhibition has seen over one million visitors, including Lady Gaga.

Do say: ‘I never wanna LEGO of this fabulous date.’

Don’t say: ‘I could do that.’

Tip-bits: Never step on a LEGO, it really hurts.

There will also be an interactive zone, where visitors are encouraged to make their own pieces. What are you waiting for? Let’s build on this…

Are you a LEGO fan? Will you be connecting at the The Art Of The Brick?
