Date idea: Afternoon tea at The Landmark

landmark3 copyGuys, if the idea of an afternoon eating perfectly formed cucumber and smoked salmon sandwiches, followed by endless freshly baked cakes and mouth-watering scones doesn’t float your boat, we’re telling you now: Your date will love it!

Afternoon tea is one of England’s finest traditions (it’s terribly quaint) and the five-star Landmark hotel provides the perfect stunning backdrop for chatting and getting to know each other better, while munching on tasty treats, all washed down with an assortment of teas, or a glass of bubbly.

Options include the traditional afternoon tea, which includes sandwiches, followed by raisin and apple scones with Cornish clotted cream, homemade strawberry jam and lemon curd. The treats keep on coming: the next course is traditional delight, which includes cappuccino bavarios, confit chestnut and orange mousse, cranberry jelly and flourless pistachio sponge and banana and maple syrup cake.

Um, you’re still not tempted? How about the chocolate version? In this case it would be advisable not to get too full up on sandwiches because up next is warm, freshly baked landmark2chocolate chip and fruit peel scones, with all the extras, topped off with chocolate ganache with milk chocolate Chantilly and coconut nougatine, chocolate crème brulee infused with chilli, chocolate and peanut tart with salted caramel and a chocolate and passion cream “financier” (we’re not entirely sure what this is but it sounds gooooood!).

Maybe not right for a first date because it’s designed to give you time (basically as long as your stomach will stretch) but it’s perfect for a second, third, or fourth date. It also provides the perfect excuse to get dressed up in shirts for the guys and ‘tea dresses’ and heels for the girls.

Afterwards, you might need to walk some of that food off, so (heels allowing) combine it with a bit of window-shopping along the nearby Marylebone High Street.

So – clink the porcelain, little fingers up and say ‘Teeeaaa.”
