Top 10 burger dates in Hong Kong

Burger mania has hit Hong Kong, with burger restaurants popping up all over the city. If you demand more from your burger date than a soggy bap and limp burger, we’ve scoured HK to find you the most scrummy date food on offer. Here are our top 10 choices:

 

BlueBUtcherBlue Butcher

This New York-style steakhouse has a walk-in dry-aging room at the front of the dining room to see and the meat is handpicked from a variety of sources around the world. Located on the Hollywood Road, it’s a convenient date spot and has a creative menu, diverse wine list and some fab cocktails. They also do a delicious brunch every Sunday from 11am to 2.30pm.

Make sure you try: Blue Butcher’s dry-aged Black Angus beef burger – cooked to perfection!

 

ButchersClubThe Butchers Club

Launched last year, The Butcher’s Club is a unique concept based around high quality dry-aged beer sourced from Australia. All patties are minced to order in front of you, before being thrown back to the kitchen to be grilled. Based in an open-plan, contemporary building in Wan Chai’s Landale Street, it has a chic, yet unpretentious feel to it. There are loads of events and they have also started collaborations with some of Hong Kong’s most well known chefs every fortnight.

Make sure you try: The Double Happiness: double dry-aged beef, double American cheese, double maple-glazed bacon, caramelised onion mayo, between two toasted grilled cheese rolls.

 

Beef&LibertyBeef & Liberty

Shanghainese chain Beef & Liberty claims to be unique because they only use beef from grass-fed Hereford cattle, raised by farmers in the Cape Grim region of Tasmania in Australia. There is also loads of innovative condiments on offer such as bacon jam, Cajun aioli, harissa yogurt and house pickles. The seating is arranged around the kitchen so you can watch the chefs as they work away and the restaurant has a striking, contemporary feel with a huge mural on the wall created by street artist Cyrcle.

Make sure you try: The Cheese Burger: beef, caramelised onion, butter lettuce, raclette cheese and pickles.

 

BuregRoomburgeRoom

On a quiet road in Causeway Bay is burgeRoom, where the classic burger features in a weird and wonderful menu, which includes everything from chilli fish and lobster to foie gras. It’s small and can get very busy, so be prepared to wait.

Make sure you try: The Pineapple Bacon Burger: Beef patty, peeled tomato, romaine lettuce, pineapple, bacon and homemade sauce.

TheDinerThe Diner

This authentic American Diner in Central has a mix of date-friendly booths, fixed bar stools and a large terrace. There are loads of US and local craft beers on offer to wash your burger down with, along with milkshakes, signature cocktails of American wines. If you fancy something other than burgers, there is buttermilk fried chicken, ribs, nachos, onion rings, salads and sandwiches on offer.

Make sure you try: The Skyscraper Burger: Four 6oz patties piled high, five slices of Monterey Jack, pulled pork, bacon, caramelised onions, dill pickles, tomato, lettuce and diner sauce – we dare you!

 

BigJoBig Jo’s

This export from Santa Monica serves burgers made from US beef, cooked to order. With more of a fast-food feel, it is a causal date spot but the burgers are great and they do Happy Hour Fridays from 5-8pm and other weekly specials.

TexasBurgerTexas Burger

Dishing up a selection of eight yummy burgers that use applewood-smoked handmade Australian beef patties, Texas Burger make all their own sauces and put them in poppy seed rolls. Set in Tin Hau’s Electric Road, it has a fun and playful feel about it, with a large Texan cowboy mural.

Make sure you try: Texas Barbecue Burger: Beefy patty with the homemade smoked jalapeno barbecue sauce, crispy bacon, onion ring.

 

BurgerCircusBurger Circus

This cute 1950’s soda shop inspired diner in Central has a train-themed carriage. You can expect freshly ground burgers, fries, all-American sandwiches and side washed down with homemade sodas, milkshakes and classic cocktails. Make sure you leave room for the amazing New York-style cheesecake.

Make sure you try: The American Acrobat: 5oz beef patty, Wisconsin cheddar, lettuce, tomato, Circus sauce.

 

DoubleDDouble D 

Double D claims they have “hit the heights of burger geekdom and spent a year secretively researching and testing a classic menu of quality fast food burgers that will satisfy your carnal burger desires.” Open from 11.30am to midnight, this burger joint is popular with the late-night crowd.

Make sure you try: The Double D: Two hand ground grass fed Australian beef patties, sharp-aged cheddar, onion shredded lettuce, tomato, pickle, Double D sauce.

BoomshackBoomshack 

Taking inspiration from America’s food trailer scene, Boomshack’s Creative Director Austin Fry mixes American, Mexican and Asian flavours to create a unique menu. Enjoy!

Make sure you try: The Holy Kimchi: Corned beef, House Kimchi, cheddar cheese and baconnaise.
