What becomes of the broken hearted? Well, they could die according to scientists.

Really? Yup. Listen up.  Studies of the broken hearted have proved that the emotional trials and traumas of a break up ‘stuns’ the heart and causes the left ventricle to change shape. This is also known as stress-induced cardiomyopathy or takotsubo cardiomyopathy (tako what now) which is Japenese for octopus traps that resemble the pot-like shape of the stricken heart. Yikes.

And it’s bad news for women (so what’s new) They are more likely than men to experience sudden, intense chest pain — a reaction to a surge of stress hormones — that can be caused by an emotionally stressful event such as a break-up. It could betrayal or romantic rejection, the death of a loved one, a divorce or separation.

Broken heart syndrome can be misdiagnosed as a heart attack at first because the symptoms are similar. Tests show dramatic changes in the rhythm and blood substances – typical to that of a heart attack.

With the left part of your heart changing shape it temporarily enlarges and no longer pumps well, forcing the rest of your heart to work harder.

So the bad news: Broken heart syndrome can lead to severe, short-term heart muscle failure. Worse case, death.

But the good news: Broken heart syndrome is usually treatable. Most people who usually make a full recovery within weeks.

Out thoughts: Next time you hold someone’s heart in your hands don’t be reckless with it – you could kill them and be done for murder..!
